These classes teach drivers how to squeeze the most out of a gas tank and how to make sure their vehicles are performing at top efficiency. A portion of the training involves practicing proper gear changing — 2,500 revs is ideal in a gasoline powered vehicle — combined with smooth acceleration and gentle stopping practices which cut fuel consumption considerably. Another helpful hint involves idling, which consumes the most fuel and creates the biggest concentration of emissions. Ideally, drivers should roll slowly when in queues instead of braking and accelerating. Also it is recommended that the engine be switched off whenever possible.

The training also includes helpful hints on reducing fuel consumption, such as removing heavy objects from the trunk as soon as possible to reduce weight. The are also advised not to top off the fuel tank unless taking a long trip since a full gas tanks add considerable weight to the vehicle.
